West Sacramento District and Curriculum

The schools within the Washington Unified District use a curriculum framework that establishes the expectations for what students should achieve in their courses in a K-12 continuum. The expectations are established and assessed using testing measures that show what it is that students can do and where instructional focus should be placed.

In English/Language Arts, teaching focuses on critical reading and writing strategies that span content areas. Writing is a significant focus of the curriculum. Students are taught to develop a process for writing, strategies to address various audiences, and goals for written expression. Students will be asked to write expository essays, persuasive pieces and have a lot of opportunities for creative and personal writing.

We currently cover the following West Sacramento-area school district: Washington Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the West Sacramento District Curriculum

In Math, students develop a new set of skills each year in topics beginning with a sense of numerical operations and progressing through the areas of measurement, data analysis, geometry, algebra and complex topics offered in high school. Technology is a part of the whole curriculum and students are able to use technology for basic learning functions but also gain the analytic and problem-solving strategies to take on a complex field like Robotics or Information Technology.

Each subject area provides students with strategies, understanding of conceptual knowledge, and the opportunity to employ reflective thinking. By building skills in a yearly fashion, reflective thinking is created by using learned problem-solving skills to take on the next set of topics in a subject. It is through this model that students are well-prepared to conduct the advanced learning offered in high school and beyond.
