Educating Our Parents: Understanding the West St. Paul District Curriculum
As part of the high school social studies curriculum, students in West St. Paul learn about geography. Learners develop the ability to create tables, charts, and graphs to represent geographic data. Students also work with maps to explore changing geographic and political features. Local geographic issues are analyzed as well, with learners positing possible solutions to those problems using geospatial technologies. The patterns of movement of human populations is also explored.
Geometry is a central component of the elementary math curriculum in West St. Paul. Students learn how to name, describe, and classify various geometric shapes, including triangles, circles, and polygons. The differences between equilateral, right, obtuse, and acute angles are explored as well. Accurate measurement of angles is a skill acquired in elementary school, with students becoming adept at using angle rulers and protractors to undertake their measurements. Basic geometric calculations, like perimeter, surface area, and volume, are also mastered at this level.

There is no registration required, and the meals are available for anyone 18 years of age or younger. This is also a great activity for local parents and children to volunteer in!
