Westbrook District and Curriculum

The curriculum of the Westbrook School district is well laid out and follows a rigorous plan from Kindergarten through graduation. The learning objectives are guided by the Maine Learning Results which specify the skills, knowledge and critical thinking abilities that students will develop in their courses. Students engage in analytic reading and writing, and use their logical reasoning skills working through math problems. Although a small school system, Westbrook offers a wide range of electives in addition to the normal core classes of Math, Science, Language Arts and History.

Chalk Talk: What Healthy Snack Should You Pack?

In elementary school, with the day very long for young learners and lunch often at odd times to accommodate a large population, snack time is essential for active bodies to re-energize. What should you pack? Something healthy that includes protein, will give your child the best energy for a good day. Sliced carrots, apples or celery are a few ideas. Crackers are good, as long as they aren't full of sugar. Make sure it is something you child likes and will eat. And, don't forget the water, nature's best drink.
