Broward County Public Schools believes that society is becoming increasingly global and digital. For this reason, the Math curriculum uses the best materials and teaching strategies to help students meet rigorous standards. Furthermore, teachers and administrators are educated in how to properly implement the math curriculum. The following math domains are covered throughout a student’s K-12 education: numeric operations, algebraic thinking, operations in base ten, fractions, measurement, data, geometry, ratios, proportional relationships, number systems, expressions, equations, functions, and statistics.

The Science curriculum engages students in an exploration of scientific research. By using experiments, making observations, and collecting data, students add to their knowledge of the physical world. The content for the Science curriculum is based upon the Big Ideas. These ideas include the practice of science, earth, space, time, matter, energy, motion, forces, living organisms, hypotheses and theories, scientific laws and models, evolution, and diversity.

Chalk Talk: How to Develop Your Student’s Writing Skills

Writing is a major part of education and academic success. Help your student to become a good writer by helping him or her to read a multiplicity of material. If your student does not understand a word, help him or her look up the meaning. Have your student practice writing neatly by hand. Explain the importance of punctuation to sentence meaning. Help your student to write letters or stories. Show them the beginning, middle, and end of a piece of literature. Help him or her to think of topics for writing. Stay informed of writing assignments from school and help the student to complete them on time. Students that can communicate well have a better chance of a successful life.
