Williams District and Curriculum

The district uses a curriculum series adopted across the state, and increasingly used around the nation because of its clarity, high expectations, measurable outcomes, and plan for student achievement. The educational aim of the curriculum is to teach students skills and concepts central to each subject and to prepare students with higher-order thinking skills which are needed in college and career pursuits.

The Common Core Standards are the framework used in Math and Language Arts. The Math curriculum describes the learning which students will conduct in the operations of numbers, quantities, and ways to measure and analyze information with precision. Students continue into advanced topics like functions and proofs in geometry, various expressions of means and formulas for equations, how to use mathemtic models, and how to choose the best method to solve a problem.

We currently cover the following Williams-area school district: Williams Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Williams District Curriculum

In Language Arts, students learn about ways to understand the language’s structure and the meaning made in texts from all genres. Students are expected to comprehend, analyze, interpret, and evaluate the content of texts. They will write literary responses, personal statements, opinion pieces, and expository essays and they will develop processes to approach writing assignments. Students are expected to use Standard English and follow the conventions of language usage.

History, World Languages, Science, all electives and specialized programs have a curriculum that detail what students will accomplish through their learning and the goals for content integration. Interdisciplinary subjects allow for core curricular subjects to be focused on with the additional layer of an extra subject to help students connect the subjects’ relevancy. The inter-disciplinary, career-oriented, and technology programs that are being developed require that students use the strong base of knowledge developed in their traditional classes in order to take on challenges and opportunities.
