Winchester schools follow the curriculum mandated by the Kentucky Department of Education. The curriculum offers a series of frameworks by subject which detail what students need to learn. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Winchester District Curriculum
The goals for Language Arts that need to be met in the areas of reading and writing are of primary importance. These skills, such as decoding meaning in text or knowing parts of speech, are assessed continually for improvement. Technology is used throughout the curriculum and integrated into everything that your child does. Writing is especially important as a communication skill and your child is taught to write clearly and up to core standards.
In Mathematics, students start with learning about numerical operations and ways of understanding quantitative data. Algebra and geometry are introduced so that students become familiar with their functions, equations and applications. The intended result is to develop a range of mathematic reasoning skills in students so they are able to apply their learning.

Keeping Informed: Recent Winchester Educational News
- Band Accomplishments - The George Rogers Clark High School Band program is noteworthy. The marching Band has over 100 members and has won numerous band competitions. The band enjoys a tradition of excellent finishes in band competitions dating back many years.
- Tech Upgrades - Clark County Public Schools have received classroom sets of Apple Computer technologies to help implement new strategies for learning. The items being used include, among other things, iPads, Mac Mini’s, document cameras and digital projectors. More students are now able to use these instructional tools because of this initiative.
- Art and Writing Contest - In a Conservation Art and Writing contest many students won awards from the schools in Winchester. The theme was about Kentucky forests and many excellent essays and pieces of art were collected. This encourages students to think about what they can do to preserve the Kentucky forests.
