Woodbridge District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Prince William County Public Schools follows a curriculum that provides detailed expectations for student learning in a scope and sequence that builds upon prior knowledge each year. Students are expected to achieve proficiency in all core subjects, and are also encouraged to find the subjects of particular interest and emphasize those within their educational plan. In high school, the elective offerings range from courses in the arts to engineering, and there are academy style schools that allow students to choose one of these areas as the focus of their high school education.

We currently cover the following Woodbridge-area school district: Prince William County Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Woodbridge District Curriculum

In Math, students learn about many topics including algebra, geometry, and data analysis. In their students of data analysis, students use information from sampling and make comparative inferences with regard to the sample’s characteristics. Students investigate the properties of chance as well, identifying the role of long-run relative frequency in determining chance. Uniform probability models are also used to further students’ understanding of probability outcomes and their ability to correctly determine the probability of events.

The Language Arts curriculum focuses on reading and writing while also providing opportunities for students to develop strong communication and research skills. Students analyze the structure of writings, in order to determine how an author effectively presents his or her point of view. High school students also work on integrating knowledge from multiple sources, integrating that information into a coherent understanding of a place, time, person, or event.

Chalk Talk: Helping Children Learn to Stay on Task

Teaching a child how to focus on a single task is one of the many things that parents can do at home and which will contribute to their academic success. Depending on the child and their interests, you can have them work on puzzles, read books, or create art without background noises or non-print media. Teach children to single-task; adults can do much for children by monitoring homework practices to exclude multi-tasking. Engage in mindful activities. Parents and teachers can take children for walks and ask them to discuss what they see, smell, hear, and feel. Mindful eating practices can allow families to focus on eating meals together, instead of the many distractions the day has brought. With adults’ modeling how to focus, children will learn the importance of paying attention.
