Chalk Talk: Great Reasons to Read More

Reading – especially reading often – provides many benefits for readers. The obvious benefits of improved reading skills and enhanced vocabulary are great in and of themselves. But frequent reading is also a great way to relax and unwind. For students, reading for a few minutes after school can help them release the stress of the school day and “get away” from all their responsibilities. Reading before bed is another great time to read, as the relaxation one experiences while reading facilitates a better night’s sleep. Frequent reading also helps keep the mind in shape. Studies show that people who read often have better memories, better attention spans and are more empathic towards others.
