Xenia District and Curriculum

The curriculum in Xenia aims to help students exercise a “can do” attitude in their studies and follows a standards-based methodology according to the core curriculum to meet students’ different learning needs and styles. The curriculum aims to increase literacy and improvement in performance in reading and math and teachers seek to help enhance students’ strengths while improving their weakness through implementing specific instructional models such as the SuccessMaker reading program, math computer intervention, and after-school tutoring/enrichment program.

We currently cover the following Xenia-area school district: Xenia Community Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Xenia District Curriculum

The Language Arts elementary programs aim to incorporate creative resources that enable students to be able to use critical thinking and analysis to write compositions, assess themes in literature and understand the meaning of written text while interpreting the relevance of themes. The early Math curriculum strives to challenge students to use multiple theories in solving problems in algebra, geometry, fractions and measurement. Once students reach high school, they should be able to solve more complex problems that involve money and finances, probability, and measurement.

Along with the Language arts and Math, science and social studies, the DARE program is integrated into the curriculum to teach students to avoid negative behaviors and habits such as drinking and driving and violence in order to promote safety and good citizenship. DARE camps and activities are held to teach students the value and practice of safety through these leadership activities.

Chalk Talk: Helping Kids Think About Careers

Children are prepared for choosing careers since they are almost five years old. They are often asked to role play, act out their dreams and fantasies and pretend they are someone they want to be when they grow up. Many children dream of becoming teachers, famous poets, lawyers and even congressmen. But what happens to many of these students along the way is they are overwhelmed by getting good grades, choosing careers that are common and well-paying or just told to choose any job and get on with it. Now with the volatile economy, many students desire to work in higher end careers of their choosing but are often feeling forced to take any office or administrative job because of the supply and demand theory of today`s sensitive economy. Working towards one`s desired career does not have to take the back seat. If one can identify their strengths, innate passions and combine this with vital skills and competencies, they can identify their true calling.
