About Me

SUBJECTS

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My ultimate goal as an educator is to facilitate student success by motivating and empowering students to discover and demonstrate their own unique talents and skills, giving them the tools to express their understanding and the confidence to do so. As an educator, I provide students with accurate and timely feedback and constructive criticism, building positive relationships with them to help ensure both their motivation and success.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English/ Creative Writing and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and Technology. I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked in education for nearly twenty years, as a certified classroom teacher, a tutor, an educational consultant, an assessment developer, and an instructional designer/project manager. I am a passionate and innovative educator, and I believe every student can learn.

I’ve taught eighth grade English/language arts, sixth grade English/language arts, fourth grade self-contained (reading, writing, science, social studies, and math). I’ve tutored at the university level, worked with special education students, autism spectrum disorder management, GED students, TOEFL, ESL, basic writing and composition, English, reading, science, social studies, humanities, and math. I have also trained teachers and administrators in effective technology integration and instructional design.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In college, I was on the editorial staff of the University of Iowa’s literary magazine, Earthwords. I also served on the editorial staff for my high school’s literary magazine. I also enjoy animal behavior studies and dog training, DIY projects, Google searches, swimming, hiking, camping, blogging, and freelance writing.
