Chalk Talk: Gap Year

It is becoming more common for students to take a year off between graduation from high school and the beginning of college. Parents and students that choose to take a gap year help relieve some of the pressures of this transition while helping to off-set the expense of college through any employment the graduate may find. This time can also give time to consider their choices for their future. There are many options that students can take from working, to interning, or taking a certificate program, working on a community project, and of course, travelling. Even if they were to travel during this year they can find work in these different areas, perhaps in an internship. With this time, the parents and young adult may be more prepared to face college and the future. They will have developed a deeper sense of themselves, and reflective and critical thinking skills that they will draw upon in all future endeavors.
