It is written as<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/frac.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-341\" src=\"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/frac.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"61\" height=\"43\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>where <em>a<\/em> is numerator which tells the number of equal parts and <em>b<\/em> is denominator which tell how many parts the whole is divided into.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we need to compare two fractions. The two fractions may or may not have same denominator. If the denominators of the two fractions are same then the fraction with the greater numerator is the greater fraction. For example, 3\/4 is greater than 2\/4. The first circle is shaded to represent 3\/4 . Two parts of second circle have been shaded to represent 2\/4. It is clear from the diagram that more parts of circle one have been shaded indicating 3\/4 is greater than 2\/4.<\/p>\n<p>If two apple pies are divided into 6 equal pieces each and you eat 2 pieces from one pie and your friend eats 5 pieces from the other pie.
