A triangle is a closed curve which is formed by 3 line segments. The line segments by which the triangle is formed are called sides<\/em><\/strong> of the triangle. The points of intersections of the sides of the triangle are called the vertices<\/em><\/strong> of the triangle. The angles formed at the vertices are called the angles<\/em><\/strong> of the triangle.<\/p>\n

So, in a triangle, there are 3 sides, 3 vertices and 3 angles.<\/p>\n

Here, we will name this triangle as \u0394ABC where,<\/p>\n

Sides : <\/strong>AB, BC, CA<\/p>\n

Vertices: \u00a0<\/strong>A, B, C<\/p>\n

Angles: <\/strong>\u2220BAC, \u2220ABC , \u2220BCA.<\/p>\n

Parts of the triangle:<\/h5>\n

There is some terminology associated with the triangles.<\/p>\n

Base<\/span>:<\/strong> Its is the bottom side of the triangle.<\/p>\n

Base angles<\/span>:<\/strong> Two angles which touch the base.<\/p>\n

Vertex of the triangle<\/span>:<\/strong> The angle which is opposite to the base<\/p>\n

Legs<\/span>:<\/strong> The two sides which are not bases.<\/p>\n

The triangles are classified based on sides and angles.<\/p>\n

Based on sides, the triangles are classified as follows.<\/p>\n

a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Equilateral triangle:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A triangle in which all three sides (angles) are equal.<\/p>\n

b)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Isosceles triangle:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A triangle in which any two sides (angles) are equal.<\/p>\n

c)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Scalene triangle:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A triangle in which no two sides (angles) are equal.<\/p>\n

a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Acute angled triangle:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Any triangle in which all the angles are less than 900<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Any triangle with one of the angles greater than 900<\/sup>.<\/p>\n
