Adjectives are invariable. They do not change their form depending on the gender or number of the noun. Adjectives describe nouns by answering one of these three questions: <em>What kind is it? How many are there? Which one is it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>red<\/strong> tomato\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some <strong>red<\/strong> tomatoes<\/p>\n<p>To strengthen or emphasise the meaning of an adjective words \u2018very\u2019 or \u2018really\u2019 are used. An adjective is usually placed in front of a noun or after verbs like \u2018to seem\u2019, \u2018to look\u2019, \u2018to be\u2019 or \u2018to taste\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A <strong>black<\/strong> hat<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You look <strong>beautiful<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Long<\/strong> road<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Types of Adjectives<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Following types of adjectives are used most commonly:<\/p>\n<p>1. Adjectives of Number: answer the question \u2018how many\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Examples: three, thirty, fifteen<\/p>\n<p>2. Adjectives of Quantity: answer the question \u2018how much\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Examples: enough, some, little<\/p>\n<p>3. Adjectives of Quality: answer the question \u2018of what kind\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Examples: decent, small, big<\/p>\n<p>4. Demonstrative Adjectives: answer the question \u2018which\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Examples: this, that, those<\/p>\n<p>5. Interrogative Adjectives: ask question about a noun<\/p>\n<p>Examples: which, what, where<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Degrees of Adjectives<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Adjectives have three forms: positive, comparative and superlative. Only the comparative and superlative show degree. Comparatives are used to compare two things and the superlatives are used to compare three or more things. the word <em>than<\/em> frequently accompanies the comparative and the word <em>the<\/em> precedes the superlative.
