For the past several years we have become increasingly aware of the adverse effects that humans have had to the Earth and various species and ecosystems within it. One of the major topics frequently discussed is called \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d which is directly related to the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to the destruction of various ecosystems on Earth.<\/p>\n

What are Greenhouse Gases, and how do they affect the Earth\u2019s Atmosphere?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Greenhouse Gases are gases that enter into the Earth\u2019s atmosphere and absorb the infrared radiation from the sun resulting in an overall warming effect. Examples of natural greenhouse gases include methane, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and water vapour. While some of these gases are naturally emitted into the atmosphere, irresponsible use of our natural resources have resulted in a drastic exponential increase in the volume of these gases entering our atmosphere creating a \u201cGreenhouse Effect\u201d.<\/p>\n

The \u201cGreenhouse Effect\u201d is a phenomenon whereby both man-made and natural greenhouse gases absorb a lot of heat from the sun, causing a dramatic increase of the Earth\u2019s atmospheric temperature, thereby damaging the Earth\u2019s natural systems. Man-made gases are created from industrial pollutants as well as gas emission from cars and can include various kinds of \u201cfluorocarbons\u201d that effectively trap heat and therefore contribute greatly to the \u201cGreenhouse Effect\u201d.<\/p>\n

The \u201cGreenhouse effect\u201d is the main phenomenon that contributes to \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d which is the warming of the Earth\u2019s atmosphere due to a high concentration of man-made greenhouse gases. Global Warming has caused a higher overall temperature as well as melting of the polar ice caps therefore decreasing the chance for survival of many Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems.<\/p>\n

What can Humans do about Global Warming?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Although humans have caused a lot of harm to the Earth\u2019s atmosphere by introducing this high concentration of greenhouse gases, we can do things in order to reduce our emissions and keep the amount of man-made\u00a0 greenhouse gases low. Here are some ideas on how we can reduce our greenhouse emissions:<\/p>\n
