Full Stop (or Period)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The period or full stop (.) is the most commonly used punctuation in English language. It is used at the end of a sentence. A space is left between the period and the first letter of the next sentence. But, there is no space between the last letter and the period.<\/p>\n

It is a lovely day today. Let\u2019s go out and play.<\/p>\n

Some more uses of period:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 At the end of a command<\/p>\n

Example: Submit your assignments on Monday.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 At the end of indirect question<\/p>\n

Example: Father asked why he came home so late.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 With abbreviations<\/p>\n

Example: a.m, p.m, M.P.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 To show a word has been made shorter<\/p>\n

Example: Co., etc<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 After titles<\/p>\n

Example: Mr., Mrs, Dr.<\/p>\n

Ellipsis<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>The ellipsis (\u2026) is used to indicate an unfinished sentence, a pause or omitted words. The ellipsis consists of three evenly spaced dots (periods) with spaces between the ellipsis and surrounding letters or other marks.<\/p>\n

Example: \u2026I will come \u2026 for lunch \u2026 tomorrow \u2026<\/p>\n
