It can be solved in either of the two ways:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Method<span>\u00a0 <\/span>1: <\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>First calculate A<sup>n<\/sup> and then take the reciprocal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0For example, 5<sup>-3<\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a05 <span>\u00d7<\/span> 5 <span>\u00d7<\/span> 5 = 125<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0So, 5<sup>-3 <\/sup><span>\u00a0<\/span>= 1\/125<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Method 2:<\/span> First take the reciprocal and then calculate A<sup>n<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">For example, 7<sup>-2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">7<sup>-2<\/sup> = 1 <span>\u00f7 <\/span>7<sup>-2 <\/sup>= 1\/7<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>= 1\/(7 <span>\u00d7<\/span> 7) = 1\/49<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Special case: Any number to the power of zero is 1.<\/p>\n<p>i.e\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 11pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'\">A<sup>0 <\/sup>= 1<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The exponent of a number tells how many times the number is to be multiplied by itself.
