A sentence always tells \u201cwho\u201d or \u201cwhat\u201d and \u201cwhat is\u201d or \u201cwhat happens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>Friend tammy my friend is. \u2013 makes no sense, therefore it is not a sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Tammy is my friend. \u2013 makes complete sense, therefore it is a sentence.<\/p>\n<p>There are four kinds of sentences by purpose. Each kind of sentence ends with its own special punctuation mark.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Declarative (or assertive sentence):<\/strong> It is a sentence that makes a statement. This type of sentences is simple sentences. A declarative sentence states, assert or declare something. It is punctuated by a period (.).<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>The dog is barking.<\/p>\n<p>It is a bright day.<\/p>\n<p>She likes chocolates.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Interrogative sentence: <\/strong>An interrogative sentence is used to ask question. This type of sentence ends in a question mark (?).<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>Is it hot?<\/p>\n<p>Where do you stay?<\/p>\n<p>Do you like chocolates?<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Imperative Sentence: <\/strong>It is a sentence that gives a command, makes a request or expresses a wish. It ends with a period (.).<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>Leave the room. (an order)<\/p>\n<p>Please be quite. (a request)<\/p>\n<p>Have a nice day. (a wish)<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Exclamatory Sentence: <\/strong>It is a sentence that expresses sudden and strong feelings like happiness, gratitude, sympathy, surprise, or pity.
