{"id":4209,"date":"2012-10-12T22:28:11","date_gmt":"2012-10-12T22:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/scholarship\/?p=4209"},"modified":"2014-12-02T08:31:59","modified_gmt":"2014-12-02T08:31:59","slug":"geometry-basics-introduction-to-circles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/scholarship\/2012\/10\/12\/geometry-basics-introduction-to-circles\/","title":{"rendered":"Geometry Basics: Introduction to Circles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A circle is a curve joining a set of points which are at same distance from a fixed point. \u00a0Here, the fixed point is called the <strong><em>center<\/em><\/strong> of the circle and the fixed distance is called the <strong><em>radius<\/em><\/strong> of the circle.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the terminology regarding a circle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/SchoolTutoring.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2012\/10\/circle1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4210\" title=\"circle1\" src=\"https:\/\/SchoolTutoring.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2012\/10\/circle1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here <strong><em>O<\/em><\/strong> is the center of the circle. <strong><em>r<\/em><\/strong> is the radius of the circle.<\/p>\n<p>Here, we can notice that, AO = OB = r.<\/p>\n<h5>Chord of the circle:<\/h5>\n<p>A chord is a line which joins any two points on the circle.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure, <strong><em>ED<\/em><\/strong> is a chord.<\/p>\n<h5>Diameter of the circle:<\/h5>\n<p>The diameter is the largest chord of the circle. The diameter always passes through the center of the circle and its length is twice the length of the radius.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure, <strong><em>AB<\/em><\/strong> is a diameter of the circle and AB = 2r.<\/p>\n<h5>Tangent of a circle:<\/h5>\n<p>A tangent of a circle is a line which touches the circle at only one point. i.e A chord can become a tangent if its starting and ending points become same.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure, FG is a tangent which passes through the point B , which lies on the circle.<\/p>\n<h5>Arc of a circle:<\/h5>\n<p>The arc of a circle is the part of the circle which lies between any two points on the circle.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure BC is an arc of the circle.<\/p>\n<h5>Sector of a circle:<\/h5>\n<p>The sector of a circle is the part of area of the circle lying between the arc and the radii.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure OCB is a sector.<\/p>\n<h5>Central angle of a circle:<\/h5>\n<p>It is the angle formed by any two radii of the circle.<\/p>\n<p>In the above figure, \u2220COB is a central angle.<\/p>\n<p>Do you also need help with Spanish?
