{"id":5983,"date":"2013-06-02T23:30:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-02T23:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/scholarship\/?p=5983"},"modified":"2014-12-02T08:27:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-02T08:27:00","slug":"types-of-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/scholarship\/2013\/06\/02\/types-of-cells\/","title":{"rendered":"Biology: Types of Cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Overview:\u00a0 Two Major Cell Groups<\/strong><br \/>\nAll cells can be divided into two major cell groups: prokaryotes and eukaryotes.\u00a0 They are divided into those two groups based on whether \u00a0the cell has a true nucleus and nuclear membrane, as well as important differences in DNA, organelles, the way they move, and functions within the cell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Are Prokaryotes?<\/strong><br \/>\nProkaryotes are types of cells that lack \u00a0true nuclei or nuclear membranes.\u00a0 One-celled organisms such as bacteria and blue-green algae are in this group, as well as many other one-celled organisms found as fossils.\u00a0 Their DNA consists of a single molecule, and they lack many different types of organelles.\u00a0 They move differently than more complex types of cells.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What \u00a0Are Eukaryotes?<\/strong><br \/>\nEukaryotes are types of cells that both have true nuclei and nuclear membranes.\u00a0 They are found in more complex, multicellular organisms.\u00a0 Their DNA is contained in chromosomes, and they have many specialized types of organelles.\u00a0 Eukaryotes can be specialized because of their more complex structure and mode of reproduction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Similarities Between Plant and Animal Cells<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough plants and animals are very different in many ways, their cells are similar.\u00a0 Both plants and animals contain many different types of eukaryotes.\u00a0 Their cells are highly specialized according to their functions within the organism.\u00a0 Both plants and animals are multicellular, and can grow very large because their cells can reproduce multiple times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Differences between Plant and Animal Cells<\/strong><br \/>\nPlant and animal cells are different in very specific ways, however.\u00a0 Plant cells have more rigid cell walls and contain large storage structures within them called vacuoles.\u00a0 They also contain plastids, which are special types of organelles that store food or contain pigment such as chlorophyll.\u00a0 Animal cells do not have any of these structures.<\/p>\n<p>Interested in <a href=\"https:\/\/schooltutoring.com\/tutoring-programs\/science-tutoring\/\">Science tutoring services<\/a>?
