Below are the essential angle properties to have mastered before entering high school. <\/span><\/p>\n

Supplementary Angles: <\/b><\/h3>\n

There is 180 degrees in a straight line. Therefore a group of angles that are constructed from a straight line must sum to 180 degrees. We say that this group of angles is supplementary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Complementary Angles: <\/b><\/h3>\n

A right angle has 90 degrees. Therefore a group of angles that are constructed from a right angle must sum to 90 degrees. We say that this group of angles is complementary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Opposite Angles: <\/b><\/h3>\n

Opposite angles are equal, as shown below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice that the sum of all four angles is 360 degrees. This is because they form a circle and there are 360 degrees in a circle. <\/span><\/p>\n

Z Pattern: <\/b><\/h3>\n

Two parallel lines and a transversal create several patterns. One is the Z pattern as seen below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here alternate angles are equal.<\/span><\/p>\n

F Pattern: <\/b><\/h3>\n

Here corresponding angles are equal.<\/span><\/p>\n

C Pattern: <\/b><\/h3>\n

Sum of Interior Angles: <\/b><\/h3>\n

This refers to the sum of all of the angles in particular shapes. These values are always constant. For example, in every triangle the angles always sum to 180 degrees. In every quadrilateral, the angles always sum to 360 degrees. These are the two most important values to know. In future math courses, more information will be taught.<\/span><\/p>\n
