Atherton District and Curriculum
The curriculum used in the districts of Atherton is designed to put all students on a path of being college-ready upon graduation. The goal is to establish a foundation of knowledge by building skills in each subject at each grade level. The elementary curriculum introduces students to a wide range of topics within a subject and while in high school the classes are more specific and require the use of skills gained at the elementary and middle school level.
We currently cover the following Atherton-area school district: Los Lomitas Elementary School District, Menlo Park City School District, Redwood City School District, Sequoia Union High School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Atherton District Curriculum
All students receive instruction in the core subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science, History and Social Studies, and Foreign Languages. Each subject imparts a range of thinking skills that students will use in college and career goals. The model is for a skills and strategy-based focus for instruction which is assessed on standardized tests given across California. Although a focus is the development of skills, procedural and content knowledge, teachers are able to use many instructional approaches like project-based work, group learning, or experiential learning to achieve these goals.
A major focus of the schools is on technology and how it can be used to enhance learning and give students an opportunity to create. It is through the analytic skills that students develop in Language Arts, and the problem-solving skills developed in Math, and the process-oriented thinking learned in Science that students have the tools necessary to accomplish their goals.

- Hillview Middle School Academies - Hillview Middle School has established Academies for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Guiding principles to these Academies are to give students a tight-knit community in which inquiry-based, discovery-oriented learning thrives. This model also helps prepare students for the choices of specialties available in high school.
- Computer Academy - The Computer Academy at Menlo-Atherton High Schwool is available to students in grades 10-12 who wish to pursue a college-preparatory program that is enhanced by significant learning opportunities in the field of technology. The school within a school model aims to provide a smaller environment in which students have more chances for collaborative work.
- Middle College - Middle College is a unique high school/college experience for students in the district who want to take on advanced learning during their junior and senior years. All costs for tuition and books are incurred by the district and students take their classes at local Cañada College.
