Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Beacon District Curriculum

The curriculum followed at all the public schools in Beacon conforms and meets the standards set by the New York State of Regents. In English and Language Arts, students focus on becoming fluent in the English language including reading, writing, listening and speaking. Through the use of reading comprehension and analysis tools, students learn to take what they have read in literature and texts and apply it to their writing skills in all academic courses.

By the end of High School students are expected to be able to write essays, research reports, and creative writing assignments using well developed grammatical and expository skills. In Math, students are guided through an in depth learning process that is focused on learning computation skills, Algebra, Geometry, statistics and probability. All graduating High School students are required to pass Regents exams in Math, Science, English, Global History, and United States History.
