Mafic and felsic rocks and minerals are also studied. Pressure, stress, and compressional forces on metamorphic rocks are another subject of study. Students learn about degrees of metamorphism as well. Learners also analyze sedimentary rocks, noting how wind, rain, and other weather forces act upon them. The physical geology curriculum also delves into various minerals. Students learn about the various kinds of mineral bonds, including ionic, metallic, and covalent.

- High School Receives Grant - Groveport Madison High School recently received a $2,500 grant from the Ohio Department of Education. The grant money will fund professional development for Advanced Placement Teachers and help them develop the tools and instructional methods they will use to deliver a more rigorous curriculum to students.
Chalk Talk: Packing for School
Packing to prepare youngsters for each school day can be a challenge for parents. First, they have to make sure all of their child's folders (with their homework inside!), notebooks, textbooks, and writing utensils are in their backpack. For young children, it would be a good idea for parents to pack an extra set of clothes for children to keep in their lockers in case of an accident. Another thing parents need to be aware of is which "special" students have the next school day. For example, if it is library day, it is important that students remember to bring back library books. Starting in middle school and sometimes earlier, students will be required to bring a change of clothes (athletic apparel). It is important for students to remember to bring their gym clothes athletic shoes as well if they are not already wearing them.
