Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bridgewater District Curriculum

Writing is a part of the Language Arts curriculum at Rockingham County Public Schools. This skill is begun by teaching children how to create the letters of the alphabet. They continue on by learning subjects and predicates and homonyms, such as they’re, their and there. Various subjects are presented to help students reach their potential. Students read articles and share what the article says and how the student interprets it, they also read books and then create letters telling about these books.

The Mathematics curriculum at Rockingham County Public Schools begins by educating students to count objects so that each object is represented by a number. They then learn how to take away or add items to set, and then they represent this idea on paper. With these basics, and the use of technology and applications, the students are able to become mathematical, logical and problem-solving skills which allows them to gain an understanding and relevance of mathematics.

Through this process, students become better at reading, writing and mathematics. They also learn to identify objects of their natural world, such as the water cycle. They also learn about melting and evaporation, weathering and how change can make objects pull or push other object. The solar system is also introduced at this level. Through all of the lessons they will attend students will learn to name some of the constellations, realize the connection between the Earth’s axis and orbit and the seasons, name types of clouds and the weather that accompanies them and they can identify each of the senses and why they are important.
