Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Camp Verde District Curriculum

Courses at Camp Verde schools are designed to prepare students with the reading, writing and listening skills, as well as communication skills they will need to be academically successful. During their schools years, the development of vocabulary acquisition skills are emphasized. Students read fiction and nonfiction pieces and they learn various writing styles, such as persuasive and expository writing. They also develop research skills and the ability to evaluate the quality of information.

In math, students learn to recognize and conceptualize higher mathematics functions such as place value and operations properties. They learn about probabilities, and later how to perform more complex data analysis. Students also learn to change the order of property operations and to use critical thinking skills to solve problems. They develop reasoning skills that build their ability to do abstract, logical and quantitative reasoning which are all skills they will use throughout their lives.

Chalk Talk: How Do I Prepare My Child for Kindergarten?

When your child is getting ready to start Kindergarten it may be a stressful time for them, but is probably a little more stressful for you. It can be a hard thing to watch your little one travel off for the first day of school. In order to make it a little easier on both of you if you go with your child to visit the school and meet the teachers. You will want to ask if your child will be attending half day or full day kindergarten. Ask what your child is expected to know when entering kindergarten. If the time is soon approaching for this big day you need to know some things that your child will have to know first. Children will be expected to know their ABCs and to be able to follow simple directions given by the teacher. You can teach your child things on your own or you can think about sending him or her to preschool which focuses on preparing the youngest learners with the skills needed for kindergarten.
