Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Capitola District Curriculum

In Language Arts, the focus on reading, writing and communicating serves to support all other learning areas. These content areas cover both literary and informational texts and students development of writing habits ranging from opinion pieces to expository writing. Student learning in math describes the skills and strategies that students will develop in the various mathematical topics and which help to develop reasoning and problem-solving types of thinking.

These content areas bring about analytic, problem-solving, and process-oriented thinking skills. The broad curricular framework provides for students to tackle increasingly complex topics by building a foundation year-by-year. As students apply these foundational skills, they are able to develop deeper critical and higher-order thinking skills.
