Comstock Charter Township District and Curriculum

The curriculum at Comstock Public Schools is based on the educational standards set by the Michigan Department of Education. This allows the school to create lessons and integrated learning opportunities that will allow the students to be prepared for the ever-changing global community. The curriculum establishes the standards that students should meet each year in order to be prepared for the next stage in their learning. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Comstock Charter Township District Curriculum

Biology, chemistry, physics, and ecology are included in the science curriculum at Comstock Public Schools. Each of the science classes include hands-on laboratory and field experience to help the students connect with the subject. Students learn how to formulate and test hypotheses, and develop scientific literacy that enables them to read and communicate about science topics. They also are shown different ways to look at the world through each of these, and other, science classes.

Comstock Public Schools includes the study of world literature in their English curriculum. Throughout their education, students analyze a work of literature and learn how to create plot diagrams, find themes, location and characters. In high school the students then learn how to combine what they have learned in these works with what they are learning in other subjects. Books like Of Mice and Men can be used to study the Great Depression. These skills help students learn to find information they may need, even from fiction, to find answers.

Chalk Talk: College Applications

Students have a number of options for the mode of application they choose when applying to college. There are Early, Regular, and Rolling Decision options. One of the biggest issues with college applications is the way they restrict students or add obligations for students to be considered. This can be a real problem for some students. Being compelled to attend a college without choice, if accepted, for example, can have an adverse effect on a student who is struggling financially. Also, not allowing students to apply to other colleges can be a difficulty. One of the worst issues is the long wait students often have to receive a response from a college. Rolling applications are an antidote for these things. They lack restrictions and obligations, and also tend to have a quick turnaround time.
