Chalk Talk: Why Extracurricular Activities Are Necessary

While the focus of going to school should be on academic work, there is a lot of value in students participating in sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. Activities like sports get kids up and active, learning how to work as a member of a team, and help them adopt habits that improve time management. Clubs and organization such as choir, Art Club, or drama facilitate the development of creative skills and get kids thinking outside of the box. Participation in volunteer organizations is also beneficial to students because it shows them the value of serving others, while also demonstrating how they can make a positive difference in their community. Participation in any of these activities will help improve students’ mood, increase their self-esteem, and alleviate stress that builds up from schoolwork, issues at home, and things that occur in everyday life.
