Economy District and Curriculum

The curriculum used in the Ambridge Area School District is comprehensive and designed to progress students through core topics in each subject, beginning by laying the foundation in elementary school and preparing students for advanced work in high school. Students in elementary school are provided with a well rounded education which will prepare them for further studies in junior high, high school and beyond. They study reading, writing, math, science and health every day. They also study geography and history as well as music, art and physical education.

We currently cover the following Economy-area school district: Ambridge Area School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Economy District Curriculum

Students in middle school are introduced to increasingly more complex tasks in reading, writing, math and science. They are introduced to geometry, algebra and are expected to apply analytic thought to what they have read. Junior high students are offered more electives than those in elementary school. Junior high students begin deciding what they want to study in high school and beyond so that they can select the best courses and learning paths for them. Students in junior high, like those in elementary and high school, take exams to identify proficiency in core subjects and students who need remedial attention.

High school students are offered many courses in the Ambridge Area School District. They are provided courses not only with many different career and vocational focuses, but also with various depths, offering Honors and Advanced Placement courses for those students who would benefit from them. Special needs students in high school, as in elementary and junior high school, are accommodated and provided for along with Gifted students and those learning English as a second language.

Chalk Talk: How to Study for an Exam

Studying for exams can be difficult, but given a few tricks and tips, it can be made a much easier task. First of all, study early and often. Review notes taken in class and homework assignments presented over the chapter being tested on. Memorize key vocabulary, dates or other information. This can be made easier using flashcards of phonemic devices such as songs, alliterations, rhymes, word plays, and other methods. For timeline type information, drawing it out like a map or using pictures or icons to jog your memory about different things in a specific order may help. Also creating a chant or song can help with lists and things that must be remembered in order. With all said and done, be sure to get a good night’s sleep before your test and remember that taking a test is as much a part of learning as class time.
