Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Holly Springs District Curriculum

The Language Arts curriculum at Holly Springs schools encourages parents to make writing a daily part of each student’s life. From elementary through high school, students are presented with various writing skills beginning with the formation of letter and how these letters can be hooked together to form words. Students learn how to keep a journal, write letters and research and write an in-depth paper. When they graduate, these children are able to join the world with the knowledge of how to create a written project.

The mathematics curriculum begins by helping the earliest learners know how to count and what each number represents. As they progress through school they also learn how to take these number and use them to solve multiple-step equations, even face their mathematics future through algebra or even calculus. One of the goals of the math curriculum is to have students be able to understand the best method to solve any type of problem and to communicate their math thought.

Chalk Talk: How to Have Writing Be an Everyday Part of a Child’s Life

Encouraging a child to write everyday can help them improve their writing skills and help develop critical thinking. To help a child become a better writer several activities can be used to help them become more confident. Purchase a journal for a child. This could be a private journal that they could write a sentence or two each day, or they could share their writing with others. Writing letters to family members or thank you cards for gifts is also an excellent way to create a good writer. With these activities in mind, most students have the ability to become a great writer.
