Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hornell District Curriculum
In Mathematics, students focus in on a small number of mathematical subjects that are taught in an intense progressive learning process. The subjects include learning numbers, addition, subtraction, and other computational skills, whole numbers operations, measurement, multiplication, division, algebraic expressions, proportional reasoning, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. These math subjects have been determined to be necessary for use in the workforce and to be ready for college.
In English and Language Arts (ELA) students learn to read, write, listen, and speak using correct English. The curriculum also uses both informational text balanced with literature to provide students with an understanding of the reading material that they will likely have to understand as adults. The development of interpretative and critical analysis skills are also fostered by the curriculum.
