Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Huron Charter Township District Curriculum
The teachers at Huron School District use resources to bring a creative twist to the study of history. Students have access to literature, newspapers, magazines, films and learn how to evaluate the information they read. These sources allow the students to study the individual people and events that have had roles in the history we study today and the impact they may have had on a country or the world. Students also discover political, social, economic and cultural issues which impacted an area or time period.
While studying literature, the students at Huron School District incorporate other subjects and helps students learn about different times, people, places, and historical events. For example, they find out how literature was influenced or had an influence on an area or on history itself. They find that from the time of the Ancient Greeks and Romans, through the Middle Ages, to today different perspectives can be gained through literary works and literature can be used to back-up what they are learning in science and math.

Chalk Talk: Preparing for Back-To-School
When getting children for the next year is school, parents need to check to make sure that everything is actually prepared. First, parents should check to see if there are any vaccinations or check-ups that are needed. Depending on a child's activities, schools may require a doctor's visit before the beginning of school. This information can be obtained from the school or the physician. If a child is going to attend a new school, check with the school office to see the child can have a tour of the school, so on the first day, they will be comfortable in navigating the hallways. Another way to help the child with the new year is to meet the teacher and find out what the expectation may be and if there is a way to volunteer in the classroom or the school. With these steps covered, parents will have taken the first steps to provide a successful year for the child.
