Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lake Station District Curriculum

Biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics are some of the areas students will study in the science curriculum. Elementary school provides students with scientific knowledge of animals’ habitats, as well as their own. Energy and power is emphasized in middle school, while high school students can focus on human anatomy and physics. The science curriculum encourages the use of technology in all courses and helps students understand how scientific innovations and changes influences progress.

Physical activity is encouraged in physical education courses. Students will acquire basic motor skills, such as running, jumping, and throwing and will be provided with opportunities for social interaction. As they progress in grade level, rhythm and coordination will also increase. Health and wellness classes emphasize healthy nutrition and responsible decision-making for personal wellness. Disease prevention is also discussed.

Lake Station District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Lake Station Community Schools provides students with a rigorous curriculum based on Common Core and state designated learning standards. Each learning objective represents a key piece of knowledge or skill that helps students build a strong understanding of the subject. The learning objectives are measurable and state assessments are used to ensure that each student is reaching the goals set out. The curriculum is also designed so that it does not prescribe a best method to teach each objective but allows for instructors to use creativity in designing their lessons.

We currently cover the following Lake Station-area school district: Lake Station Community Schools.

Chalk Talk: How To Be Organized In School

Being organized in school can help students get and stay on the path to success. First, you’ll want to get basic supplies that you know you’ll need, like pens, pencils, folders, and paper. You may also want a pencil case or pouch to hold these pens and pencils, along with calculators or other items you know you’ll be using frequently. Also, try to get binders or notebooks with pockets in them to store papers. You’ll want to clean these out at least once a month, although once a week is better. Keeping your locker clean and organized can be helpful as well. Plan to clean it around the same time as your folders. Having a planner where you can write down all of your assignments will definitely help a student stay organized. Many schools give these to students for free at the beginning of the year. Finally, when taking notes or writing papers, put the date on all of them. It’s much easier to keep your papers organized this way and it will make sorting through them much quicker.
