The goal of the curriculum in English is for students to develop their abilities to interpret and evaluate information and through their History classes students gain in conceptual knowledge about history, civic institutions, economics, and cultural matters. Math and Science teach a host of advanced thinking skills like relational thinking, process-oriented thinking, logical and deductive reasoning, and hones students skills in precision and accuracy. Students options for learning a new language exist during the elementary and secondary years and impart a range of translational thinking skills.

Chalk Talk: Preparing for Emergencies in Schools
Thankfully, emergencies are unlikely to happen frequently in schools, but it is still vital that students and teachers be prepared in the event they happen. The preparedness activity that is practiced most frequently in schools is the fire drill. This involves students quickly yet calmly exiting the school via their designated emergency exit and lining up in an area around--but not too close to--the school. Once outside, teachers take attendance to make sure all are accounted for; this is the only talking that should occur. Students and teachers generally stand outside for a few minutes until their principal allows them to go back into the school. Although fire routes are posted in each classroom, fire drills give students and staff a chance to practice taking their route and remaining calm while doing so.
