Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Martins Ferry District Curriculum
The middle school science curriculum in Martins Ferry introduces students to concepts in physical science, life science, and earth-space science. The physical science component of the curriculum includes an exploration of atoms and matter. Students learn that atoms compose matter, and that all objects contain matter as well. Learners also examine the concept of motion, and how molecules within an atom can change the state of that atom based on their motion. In life science, students learn about the processes by which a single cell replicates to create multiple cells.
The Martins Ferry world languages curriculum introduces elementary learners to basic concepts in acquiring a new language. Students participate in activities that promote their reading comprehension, including the acquisition of understanding of essential words and phrases. Greetings, names of common objects, common requests, and numbers are among the words and phrases that beginning students learn to read. Students also work on their speaking abilities by engaging in one-on-one and small group conversations in which they give simple commands, ask questions, seek clarifications, and introduce other speakers.

SchoolTutoring Academy gave my daughter the confidence she needed to boost her SAT score Thank you!
SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Why Kids Need Sports
Some parents view participation in sports as an extra activity, one that isn’t necessary for their child’s overall development. However, this could not be further from the truth. Sports offer children a host of benefits, both in and out of the classroom. Children that play sports learn valuable lessons in setting goals, hard work, and working as part of a team. Kids that play team sports also learn how to communicate effectively with diverse people. Sports teaches kids to overcome diversity as well, and continue working towards a goal even when there are obstacles in the way. These personal skills translate into a greater degree of success in the classroom. Students that play sports often have improved time management skills and perform better on classroom assessments. Athletes often hand in homework on a more regular basis as well. Student-athletes also get a boost in self-esteem from the improvement they experience in their skills and their performance both on the field and in the classroom.
