Chalk Talk: Interviews

Not every college offers interviews, but for those who do, interviews are a great way for applicants to really make themselves stand out. Interviews demonstrate a lot of positive qualities for applicants just from the fact that the student requests one. And interviews are a really good way to establish a connection with your regional representative. Not every student is represented accurately by his/her transcript, and interviews are one of the main ways these students can demonstrate their maturity, intelligence, attitude, and a host of other positive qualities. Most college interviews aren’t as stressful as students might think; they tend to be more like conversations, rather than a barrage of questions. Interviews tend to be easy to schedule; for most colleges, you can do it through their website. It can be difficult to travel to a faraway campus, and some colleges do offer Skype and similar electronic interviews, but be wary of alumni interviews; these alumni, though in your area, are rarely trained by admissions staff, and therefore their recommendations don’t necessarily mean much.
