Mooresville District and Curriculum

Both Mooresville public school districts — Mooresville Graded and Iredell-Statesville — adopted the Common Core State Standards and North Carolina Essential Standards, which established the curriculum for each of the core subjects. The standards serve as the classroom teaching objectives that instructors use and are measured through standardized assessments to ensure all students are reaching the learning goals.

We currently cover the following Mooresville-area school districts: Iredell-Statesville School System and Mooresville Graded School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mooresville District Curriculum

Iredell-Statesville schools believe that success after graduation includes the ability to carry out research, and use the information gleaned from that research to make responsible decisions and to solve everyday problems. Media skills are important as well, because technology has permeated our lives, providing us with high-quality and immediately-available sources of data and news, and students learn how to determine credible and relevant resources.

Mooresville Graded School District is driven by technology. All curriculum is based on the use of technology to broaden the learning base of the students and teachers in the district. Inquiry-based research is key to success in science and English/Language Arts classes, and the training for that begins in sixth grade. Of course, the prerequisites for such inquiry are covered in earlier grades, with scientific and technical texts such as graphs, charts included in curriculum by 4th grade.

Chalk Talk: Pictures Are Worth a Thousand Words

One way to remember definitions or processes—whether it’s for English, math, social studies, or science class—can be to draw pictures. Even if you aren’t artistic, simple drawings can be used instead of words to help you understand and retain information. In math, for example, if the term is acute angle, then draw a narrow angle with a stick girl saying “Aw, isn’t this little angle ‘acute’ one?” For science class, draw pictures of the evaporation/transpiration cycle that include a lake with clouds above the lake and nearby mountains, then rain coming down on the mountains, and water flowing off them to the lake, with arrows showing the direction of the moisture flow.
