Chalk Talk: Programs for Gifted Learners

Our vast curriculum includes core standards and benchmarks for average students but the most exceptional curriculums tailor specific programs and skills in alignment with the gifted. Most of Ohio's schools strongly consider extracurricular activities, clubs, programs, challenging placement courses and exams to help the gifted excel but also stimulate their curiosity for lifelong learning. The key for gifted students is to enable them to learn but to keep challenging them to prevent boredom. When students are bored, they do not learn and they stop growing. This is why schools aim to tailor to different needs of students in academics and athletics. Students who are gifted in one area such as the arts may lack in others such as math or sciences. While gifted students need to be encouraged to use their talents, expand on their skills they also need to be inspired to challenge their weaker subjects.
