Northbrook District and Curriculum

Northwest Local School District is responsible for providing a public school education for the children in Northbrook. Although just one school – Taylor Elementary – falls within the boundaries of Northbrook, students go on to attend other schools nearby that are also part of Northwest Local Schools. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Northbrook District Curriculum

The English language arts curriculum in Northbrook focuses on several domains, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. By the final two years of high schools, students have the appropriate skill level to extract key details and ideas from literary works. Students at this level work with theme, examining how authors develop the theme throughout the text.

In middle school, students in the theatre program learn about various styles of theatre, comparing and contrasting the features of comedies, dramas, and tragedies. Learners analyze various aspects of theatrical works, including the common emotions and conflicts that a dramatic character usually encounters.
