Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Olean District Curriculum
The Olean City School District is focused on meeting the approved Common Core Curriculum state standards for the State of New York. In English and Language Arts, students focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking to develop a command of the language. In that process, students will learn how to research, understand facts and concepts, and use the language to analyze texts.
In Mathematics, students in elementary school will begin with learning numbers and computational skills and move on to the basics of geometry and algebra. The study of algebra and geometry will continue through middle school and into high school, where students will also learn probability and statistics. The high school curriculum prepares students for Regents exams in addition to offering a wide variety of additional coursework including Advanced Placement courses.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: The Great Plant Escape
A great website for students, teachers and parents is called the Great Plant Escape which is sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension. The site shows children step by step the importance of plants as they solve a mystery with Detective LePlant. There is also a teacher’s guide and examples of projects and experiments that children can participate in as they learn about the world of plants.
