Chalk Talk: 21st Century Skills in the Classroom

21st Century skills have become the buzz word in education recently, but how do teachers implement these skills in the classroom. One of the easiest of these skills to incorporate into everyday lessons is collaboration. Students often work with a partner or in groups to complete assignments and projects. A teacher can add to this by taking the time to teach students how to be good listeners and conflict resolution strategies. Another skill that can be easily implemented is the use of technology to make sure students have the skills they need. Teachers often have students use laptops or tablets to complete work. Teachers can also incorporate the skill of problem solving into almost any subject. Students may receive a real-life scenario in which they have to research in order to make the correct decision. By implementing these skills into everyday lessons, teachers can ensure their students have the skills to be successful in their endeavors.
