The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District is dedicated to providing superior academic programs that promote student achievement and life-long learners. The district’s educational programs are based on New York States P-12 Common Core Learning Standards which provide students with the resources needed to meet the challenges of the 21st Century college and career ready. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Oyster Bay District Curriculum

The New York State English/Language Arts curriculum for Pre-K through 2nd grade students consists of guided and accountable independent reading, listening and learning and skills. Students enjoy reading materials that they encounter in daily life such as magazines, books and newspapers. The Grade 3-12 program includes six components that emphasize reading, writing, listening and speaking in response to high interest texts. Each component is intended to last a quarter of the school year.

Oyster Bay High School offers a wide variety of courses to help prepare students for entry into college and their School Business Partnerships help ready students for the workplace after high school. The High School also offers Accelerated Honors and Advanced Placement Courses. Understanding the importance of visual and performing arts in education, the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District provides instrument and vocal lessons and numerous artistic opportunities for enrichment.

  • First Tech Challenge Robotics Team - Don’t miss the exciting launch of Oyster Bay-East Norwich’s First Tech Challenge Robotics Team. The team is open to all 7th through 12th graders. Parents and Community Members we need your experience and help to help make this team a success! Get in at the beginning of this exciting challenge and help our students prepare for the 21st Century!
  • 21st Century Learning - To help the students of Oyster Bay High School learn more about the field of computer science, Oyster Bay-East Norwich High School is offering a wide variety of classes in this high demand field: These include Video Game Design and Java programming which introduces students to coding and basic computers and is designed to help them create video games. A course is also available in HTML5 where students learn basic web page design coding. The high school also offers an Advance Placement Computer Science class that teaches student’s basic computer programming using Java language. Students also have the opportunity to take college credit Cisco Networking Academy classes. In these classes, students learn how to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot a computer network. Upon successful completion of the academy, students can take their test to earn their certification as a Cisco networking technician.
  • New Meal Options - Oyster Bay High School has a new breakfast cart! Located in the main lobby as students enter the building the cart is filled with lots of healthy choices such as Greek Yogurt, fresh fruit, hot oatmeal, cold and hot whole grain cereal, pancakes, bagels, assorted muffins and egg sandwiches. There is also a variety of juices, water and hot chocolate available. These items are reasonably priced, conveniently located for students who may have missed breakfast. A healthy breakfast provides students with the vitamins and nutrients they need to “energize” their learning and improve their concentration.

Chalk Talk: Important Facts About Flu Season

The New York Department of Health recommends that all children 6 month or older get the flu vaccine. Flu is an infection of the nose throat and lungs. The flu comes on suddenly and can be spread very easily from person to person. Symptoms of the flu may include: tiredness, high fever, headache, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and sore muscles. Children also have stomach problems and diarrhea. If your child has the flu make sure they plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. You should talk to your doctor before giving your child any over the counter medications. Never give your child or teenage any medication that contains aspirin since it could cause serious problems. Children with the flu should not return to school or regular activities until they are symptom-free for 24 hours (no fever for 24 hours without the use of fever control medicines) and is acting normal.
