Page District and Curriculum

The Common Core Standards of the state of Arizona and their College and Career Readiness program, strive to prepare students for the world that they will encounter after high school. The schools of Coconino County offer a curriculum that is rich in content and that supports the broad goals of the curriculum. Each school also has in place appropriate supports and enhancements to core curriculum so that all students are able to maximize their educational experience.

We currently cover the following Page-area school district: Page Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Page District Curriculum

The Language Arts/Literacy program prepares students by teaching good communication and literacy skills. From learning the basics of letter sound and recognition to comprehension and critical thinking students move from these basics adding more complex skills with each progressive grade. Students learn different writing skills that are more advanced and their abilities to use critical thinking becomes honed, preparing them for college and career searches. Literacy is a critical skill, as students cannot expect to be academically successful in any subject without these skills.

In Mathematics, again, students begin with the basics of number recognition, learning also to write the numbers. The functions of addition and subtraction are learned by counting objects. Students also learn to recognize shapes and colors, grouping and organizing into similar groups. These are basic algebra and geometry skills that form a strong foundation on which to build skills that allow them to solve problems with precision and understand how to use different computational tools and strategies.

Chalk Talk: How Can Learning About Technology Help My Child?

Technology has taken firm root in society, connecting people from all parts of the world. Every business uses technology, making it extremely important for our children to learn, for they will be expected to use it in college and on the job. Schools use technology and software to teach our students, with special computer labs where students improve reading and math skills. Truth be told, most kindergartners of today know more about the computer than their parents. Computers make learning more fun and you usually do not have to fight with kids to get their homework done because they love working on the computer. Even though computers have made a lot of things easier, remember to monitor how your child uses the computer. Limit the time allowed for playing games. Place blocks on any of the devices your kids use and remember how easy it is for online predators to strike. Skills in technology will be a tremendous help to students throughout school, in college and in their future careers.
