  • Rim Country Museum - Living in Payson gives you an array of places to visit. The Rim Country Museum, which houses oldest forest station and residence in the area. The displays include Indian artifacts, blacksmith and mining displays telling the story of the area. Zane Grey, the writer of western books, took his inspiration from the Rim Country of Arizona. Enjoy a family outing to the museum soon for education and enjoyment.
  • The Strawberry Schoolhouse Museum - Visit the school where some of your ancestors may have gone to school. It even held a mystery of a rash of thefts that was not solved when it happened in 1886, when it occurred. It was, however, finally solved in 1965, when a restoration project discovered the stolen objects, including a stick of chalk, an eraser and the teacher's gold watch, in, of all places, the nest of a pack rat! Back in 1886, students were even held after school in an attempt to get a confession, which the hapless school teacher never got.
  • Zane Grey Cabin & Museum - The cabin is actually a reproduction of the actual cabin, which was restored in the 50s, but burned in 1990. The cabin and museum contains artifacts that make it look as it would have when Grey stayed there to write and spend time hunting, which was his favorite activity.

Chalk Talk: Planning a Move? Check out the Schools

If you are planning to move and have school age children, one of the first things you will want to do is to research the schools in the proposed move area. By looking online you can find school ratings, so you might want to make that the first step. The next step is to visit the schools your children will attend if you move to a certain neighborhood. Talk to teachers and check out their curriculum and what types of extracurricular activities are offered. Next, take your child for a visit to see how s/he reacts. Of course, most kids do not want to leave the familiar, so you will make the ultimate decision based on your research. By making the extra effort, you will be sure to have your children attending good schools.
