Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pontiac District Curriculum
From the elementary grades, math is taught with the expectation that student should be prepared for higher level math topics like algebra, geometry or statistics. An early introduction to shapes, spatial relations, algebraic patterns, and probabilities lays the groundwork for this. During middle school, students learn more about mathematic expressions and equations, geometry, measurement and operations. In high school, an expectation is that students are able to recognize the best way to solve any math problem.
The sciences are an important part of the curriculum; life sciences, physical science, earth science. English emphasizes reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and word study. Social Studies includes curriculum that covers history, civics, economics, geography. Each grade has testing standards that have to be met to be promoted to the next grade. The curriculum is challenging and presented in a creative manner to keep the students interested!

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Staying Involved!
Study after study has shown that parental involvement in a student’s education is one of the largest factors in a student’s success in school. Sometimes parents are very involved during the elementary years than fall off a bit during middle and high school. Staying involved throughout all 12 years of school will help your student to be successful. Staying involved also allows you to notice when your student is struggling and can use extra help! This doesn’t mean that parents need to stand over their child every night to see that homework is completed, engaging in conversations about issues at school is critical parental involvement.
