Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Port Alberni District Curriculum
The Language Arts curriculum establishes a path of learning skills that help students encounter all subject matter. Reading is taught so that students have comprehension and analysis strategies for both fiction and non-fiction. There has been an increased emphasis on developing strong critical thinking skills within the curriculum. By eighth grade, children work on analyzing instances in which two texts present conflicting information about the same topic. Students also learn the importance and influence of well-crafted sentences and paragraphs in delivering one’s point of view.
Students develop and understanding of the different styles of writing and learn how to tailor their message to their intended audience. Teachers emphasize writing with various types of words and phrases to add interest to writings. Students also learn how to evaluate the work of others, offer feedback, and accept feedback on their own writing. They also learn how to edit and revise their own work, and are taught about the proper way to reference other books and resources used in their own work.

SchoolTutoring Academy Increased My SAT Score By 200 Points
My son’s math marks in high school have always been weak so I found it very beneficial that his ACT tutor worked on solidifying his fundamentals while prepping for the ACT.
SchoolTutoring Academy gave my daughter the confidence she needed to boost her SAT score Thank you!
SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: What Not To Put On a College Resume
The purpose of a college resume is to highlight a student’s involvement in extracurricular activities, and through this, to highlight certain qualities in the applicant. Some of these qualities might be leadership, commitment, intellectual curiosity, work ethic, compassion, creativity, etc. Resumes are easy to format; every word processing program probably has a format an applicant can fill in to make a resume, and colleges aren’t that concerned with layout, as long as the resume follows certain basic rules: the applicant’s name, contact information, and grade point average should be centered at the top with the activities broken up into sections below, and the resume should only be one page long. Some students will try to just throw everything onto a resume, and this is a bad idea. Think about the impact each activity will have.
