Royal Oak District and Curriculum

The Royal Oak Schools use a curriculum established by the state to ensure that all students are receiving the same high quality learning opportunities. The curriculum details the expectations in each core subject and builds progressively so that students deepen their knowledge yearly rather than learning in bits and pieces. The goal is to provide a cohesive series of goals that are achievable and testable and can determine that each student is meeting the mark.

We currently cover the following Royal Oak-area school district: Royal Oak Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Royal Oak District Curriculum

Royal Oaks Schools offer a liberal arts education with core study in Math, Science, English and Social Studies. This progressive school district also offers AP course work in Chemistry, Calculus, English Literature, European History, Physics, US Government, US History, and World History. High school students that perform well are able to jump start their college careers by earning college credits while still in high school! 89% of students that were enrolled in 2013 and graduated went on to attend college.

The core courses are supported by career education courses, technology courses, programs in the arts and other resources that help students develop a sense of what they will want to do upon graduation. The library and guidance resources provide career inventories and counseling services so that students can learn more about what their aptitudes might lead them to. The schools also have many electives – from arts groups to academically competitive teams.

Chalk Talk: Understanding the Expectations

Sometimes the jargon used in education may be difficult for parents to understand. One of the best ways a parent can help their student is by having a clear understanding of the expectations that the district has for their students. Many parents feel uncomfortable addressing their questions. If you find yourself shaking your head when reading the curriculum standards write your questions down and either email them or hand them to your child's teacher during the next school meeting. Also, if a teacher uses a phrase you are unfamiliar with during a meeting, just stop and ask – after all teachers love getting questions. Getting answers to your questions will help you to support your child AND their teacher more effectively!
