Schuyler District and Curriculum

Schuyler Community Schools has a vision of a school system with a large amount of parental involvement, community involvement, and, of course, student involvement. They have an objective to meet the needs of every learner and create skilled, responsible and knowledgeable adults in our global society. The Nebraska State Department of Education developed the standards of learning for the school system, which focuses on the common core curriculum of Science, Mathematics, History, and Language Arts.

We currently cover the following Schuyler-area school district: Schuyler Community Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Schuyler District Curriculum

Within the Math learning strands, the material covered includes the demonstration of operations. Operations include those with fractions, integers, and decimals, and the students are instructed to use words, symbols, and illustrations to explain a variety of these operations. The multiplication and division of fractions, for example, are to be shown in these three ways by the students, as well as the multiplication and division of fractions and integers.

Consisting of a broad Language Arts curriculum, the objectives comprise the skills of communication. Students will learn to apply their writing abilities to communicate with others their purpose of their text through the complete writing process. The demonstration of writing techniques is increased by grade level as the students impart research skills, such as gathering primary and secondary sources using online means, by books and interviewing, and through media sources.

Chalk Talk: The Search for a Superintendent

When a school system has a Superintendent that resigns, there are various phases that are taken before a new one is hired. Each school system does it differently, but the main steps are: the public becomes aware that the system is searching for a superintendent, surveys go out and are available to all community members, the pool of entrants is analyzed and the pool is slimmed down after looking at all of the input from the community, and eventually, after many interviews, the hiring. There are several interviews with the top numbered candidates, and the interviews take place with an interview committee.
