Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Scott City District Curriculum

The Lafayette Parish School System has implemented the state mandated Common Core Curriculum across their district schools. Common Core provides curriculum standards in core subjects such as English and Language Arts (ELA) and Science. In English and Language Arts students learn to read, write, listen and speak using correct English. Students are encouraged to develop good research and critical analysis skills which are used in reading comprehension and in writing assignments.

In order to ensure literacy among students English literacy standards are applied across all academic courses including technology courses. Students read both informational text and literature so that they are prepared for the types of reading they may encounter in college and on the job. In Mathematics, students learn basic math skills including computational skills, algebra, geometry, proportional reasoning and statistics. Developing core math skill mastery provides students with the skills they need to apply to undertake higher math and to use math on the job.
